Sumita, 9
Sumita, Sue Sue, Sue Monkey ... these are all names she calls herself. She limped into our lives, shy and hurting, in April 2022. Her smile has grown and her incredible and endless personality has emerged like a flower in full bloom. I can't wait to tell you about her!

September 2025 Update
Sumita is nine now, and we’ve seen so much growth in her over the past year. Spiritually motivated, she talks about God every chance she gets and once said that she doesn’t want to live in a world where bad things happen.

She strives to be a peacemaker among her friends. Even though she still has her moments, she’s determined to do what is good and follow Jesus, and from our experience, she does a pretty good job of that.

As the first school semester is wrapping up, Sumita was worried about something she would find out the next day at school—whether she had finished everything for the term. She told us her “bolly” hurt because she was stressed. Thankfully, she came home from school smiling, relieved and feeling a lot better about the future.
Please keep Sumita in prayer, as God is drawing close to her and she’s learning to listen to His voice.

Her Story
Each child's story is their own to tell so we share only the parts that are appropriate. In time, we believe the testimony that God is giving them is something they'll share to help and encourage others. Until that time, we will share those things which aren't too deeply personal but will still give you insight into the hearts and minds of these young people God has sent to us.

October 2024 Update
Sumita is the younger sister of Chotika, who also lives with us. But she's actually one of many siblings. So many, in fact, that we're not certain of the number. It sounds like some are older than the girls while others are younger. Just this year, her dad and his new wife had twin boys.

Sue and Cho witnessed the death of their mother and there's no way to experience that and not have it leave indelible marks on your mind. Many countless nights of them crying themselves to sleep, many times they've come to us in the dark asking us to pray. When you've never known peace and then you're given a peek at what it could be like, you're very likely to want more of it. That's been our little Sue.

A few weeks ago, I was walking around the rice paddies on our property and praying. I saw a flash of pink coming toward me and soon could see that it was Sumita. She ran up with her usual amazing smile and sparkly eyes and said she wanted to walk with me. I grabbed her little hand and we walked. She wanted to talk about all the things Jesus had made and how He made "Sue Sue" because He loves her. She told me that when she goes to school she sees bad things and hears things she doesn't want to hear. I cringed because I want so badly to get these kids to safety beyond the schoolyard. But as she chattered on she said, "I don't want to live where bad things happen. I want to live with Jesus."

That's largely how Sue lives her life. She wants to be with Jesus.
